SEOUL, South Korea — Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. said its S3C2440 microprocessor has a core clock frequency of 533 MHz.
Samsung also claimed the device was the world's fastest mobile CPU, although processors from Intel Corp and Advanced Micro Devices Inc., have exceeded 550 MHz in clock frequency for many years.
It appears that Samsung is restricting its definition of mobile to include only mobile telephones and personal digital assistants.
Within the S3C2440 is an ARM920T RISC processor core running at a voltage of 1.3V linked to peripheral circuits using the Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture (AMBA), Samsung said.
The integrated circuit is implemented in a 0.13-micron CMOS standard cell and memory compiler manufacturing process technology, the company added. The S3C2440 CPU is sampling now in 533 MHz, 400 MHz, and 300 MHz versions, and will be in mass production beginning in the fourth quarter, Samsung said.
