AFAIK you have to contact 3 cos the A835 is one of their supported phones.

You may be able to unlock it if you can find someone who can remotely unlock Motorola phones using a code (aka log) obtained from the Motorola server, but the server can sometimes play up.

And I'm not 100% sure if you would be able to use another sim in it. I say that cos the 3 sim (3G) is different to the normal o2/voda/tMob/orange sim (2G).
