Nokia N - Gage

Today I bought the Nokia N-Gage from the Carphonewarehouse sim free for £99.99.
And before you all pounce and say how useless it is after briefly using the phone side of it im really impressed with the clarity of calls, features and quality of the MP3 player!
I thought the drawback was going to be the sideways usage of the phone, but its not as bad as i thought............ dont feel as much of a plum as i thought i would lol, just takes getting used to.
For the same price as the Nokia 3300 £99.99 it is heaps better. The only thing is you just get a 32MB memory card instead of the 3300's 64MB.
Still got to have a go at the games, theres one built in but thats all, so i will let you all know how i get on.

I need to buy a 256mb card for it :) Can't afford one at the minute as i dont make cash :(

I have every gae and app plus tonnes of logos and wallpapers

Go to the nokia website (www.nokia.co.uk)

Click on 'phones' and scroll down till you get to N-Gage. Click on that and another window opens which is the N-Gage page. Loads of stuff on there - media players, games,

I guess you'd use the PC Suite software for loading stuff onto your TACO :haha:

As for wallpapers and tones, I think you can use the ones that you used for your 5100.

Hi Bunny,

Dont use the PC software that came with it, just right click on any file when usb is connect and

right click - send to - may be E drive

Your MMC acts as a drive just simply send files to it. As for wallpapers and tones, op logos, games, videos, mp3s and more you send via the above way.

What is the best size of image to fit the screen.
I have a few on there but there is white borders around it so obviously they are too small.

Screen size is 176x208, the same as my 3650 screen.

You should be able to use wallpapers for the 3650, 6600 & 7650.

I do, but I'm not worried about that.

I'm going to see if I can change the background colour to black so that I have black borders. Or another dark colour.

I have a XP theme on my n gage, you can use skin editer and skin launcher to get it, it looks awesome.

Also you can have a app where you canhave better screensavers. I have it, want it? you can have it. Thing is t is a 15 day trial, dont know if it will go on longer though

Here's the NGAGE PC Suite guide.

The way you load the symbian apps onto the NGage is a bit different to the way I copy them onto my 3650 but the instructions are in here...

It sounds like you need a better dvd ripper! It should be as simple as :-

DVD->avi
avi->rm

although there is software (smartmovie) that can play divx on the n-gage!

If you're looking for a certain film already encoded let me know (usually about 50/60mb) ;)

There's no reason why you can't use it for MP3's, you wouldn't be able to store them on the phone memory, it's not big enough.

ANd you can download Video players onto your MMC (memory card) as long as they're symbian based. There's several about, I will have a look for a FREE one.

As for the movies there are loads of them ready to played in the original real player they average around 50-odd mb or there's the new series of the simpsons @ about 11mb per episode!

Mp3s are fine upto 512mb and a 1gig is in the works

Ð, I don't have any DVD ripping software at all, and even 50 to 60 MB is still enourmous, I'm only using an ISDN connection! :)
Any tips for some good DVD ripping software, prefablly free, for obvious reasons :)
Or even just something that can record to avi from what evers on the screen etc., that'd be handy.

I don't know if I mentioned this before but I got my 256mb mmc from Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=54825) pretty good value, and i haven't had any problems, I got 19 n-gage games on there quite nicely ;)
