View Full Version : Data Cables for the 3510i and 6310i
Hi there people.
I dont know much about moblie phones myself due to the fact that I still use my first phone which is a nokia 3210 (it works so I have had no reason for gettin a new one)
But I have been asked by my manager at work to update/replace some of the work phones. The models I am having to upgrade to is the models 3510i and 6310i.
My manager mentioned that your able to get some software for the PC, For connecting the phones to the PC through a data cable.
He said I would be able to take the "Info" from the old phone, put it to the PC, then from the PC to the new phone!
If this is correct whats the "info" that I can take from the old phone?
Also what is this software called and where can I download it?
Is it easy enough to use?
Will I need a different program/software for the two different models?
I wont be putting games on to these phones due to the fact that they are work phones, so it will just be standard setups for the phones.
hope some one can help
Thanks
so...you're trying to get info from your 3210 into your PC via a data cable and then to your new phone..?
if thats the case..you cant because the 3210 doesnt have a data cable plug/socket
no no sorry man I didnt phrase it correctly.
my own phone is a 3210 and Im keepin it.
the work phones that I am upgradeing my work collegues to are 3510i and 6310i.
something I never said which I should have was, that they are upgrading from 3330e and 6210e.
I dont know if the "e" part means anything its just what I have on this peice of paper!
so what I am tryin 2 do is up grade all the 3330e to 3510i and also upgrade all the 6210e to 6310i.
and I was wondering where I can get the software for doing this?
hope that made a little more sense. sorry for the cunfusion.

right, well the 3330 (no, the 'e' makes no difference at all) use one type of cable, where as the 3510i use another, so you'd have to buy two seperate cables for that job.
However, lukcily the 6210 and 6310i use the same cable, so you only need one for that.
Now, the problem is, with the limitations of the phones, espesialy the 3330, is what kind of info you want to move to the PC and back again.
If it's phone numbers, theres a far more simple and cheaper way of doing this. If you want to transfer calender dates etc. or anything else then you'll need the cables.
So, if you tell me what kind of info it is you need to transfer, then i'll expand of the different possibilites you have.
ohhh!
right, i get what you mean man!
listen to deadulas cuz he knows :)

it's Daedalus actualy, not Deadalus. I've had so many people call me that instead, it shows how much people take notice doesn't it? ;)
oh cheers man.
will you be able to tell me the simpler way for transfering all the numbers for the 3330e to 3510i, as far as i know it is just the telephone numbers!
also the 6210e to 6310i I have got some software for it(not sure if it is the correct kind, was wondering if you had any suggestions first before I tried it) and already got the cable to connect these phones.

ok, well for the 3330 to 3510i number transfer, all you need to do is the following:
1. Take the existing phone (3330) and go to Menu --> Phonebook --> Copy --> From Phone to Sim --> All at once.
This should then copy all the numbers on the phone to the sim card.
2. Remove the simcard from the 3330 and place it in the 3510i.
3. Using the 3510i, use the right button (Names) and go to Copy --> From Sim to Phone --> All at once.
This will then copy the contents of the simcard to the 3510i itself.
4. If you are planning on using new simcards with the 3510i's instead of the existing ones, then remove the old simcard from the 3510i and put the new one in.
If there are more numbers in the 3330's phonebook than the sim can hold, then after you have copied as many as you can to the simcard, still do steps 2 & 3. Once you have done that however, go to 'Names' again on the 3510i, then go to delete and it should give you the option of deleting all the numbers. Do that and then repeat steps 1 to 3 again until all the numbers from the 3330 are copied accross.
However, there is one minor complication. When deleting all the numbers from the simcard so you can transfer more numbers accross, you have to make sure that the 3510i is using the simcard memory at the time and not the phone's memory. Otherwise, when you go to delete all the numbers, the phone will delete all the numbers in the phone's memory that you've just copied onto it. THe best way to check this is while in the 'Names' menu, go to Settings, then go to Memory in use or memory usage, or if neither of them, go to memory status. Once you have found the right one (i'm afraid i'll have to leave it to your best judgment) then select sim card memory. After that you can then proceed with the delete all numbers process.
As for the 6210/6310i situation. I can't really adivse you much further until i know a) what software you've got for the job and b) what kind of cable (serial, USB, etc.).
Hope all that was of some use, and hopefully saved you a bit of money :)
Brillyant man thats a great help :)
as for the cable, it is a serial cable and I have got nokia PC suite(wasnt to sure if this is the correct software for the job but it's what came with the phone and the same kind I downloaded(didnt know it was the same one)).
ah it's sweet if we did need to spend money they good thing it wont be me paying for it . . . the company would :D
cheers

thats alright :)
As for the serial cable, just plug one end into the 6210, the other into the PC and install the software. Luckily, i've got Nokia Data Suite too, so i can help :)
Go the Nokia Content Copier, and follow the on-screen instructions, simple as that really. But, make sure you've got the Serial port enabled in the bios (if you dont know what it is, either ask someone who does know to check for you or just plug it in one and hope :) ). It may ask you to select a port to choose from, either select auto detect or flick through them until it finds it. The problem is serial cables can be a pain compared to USB or Infrared, so it can be tricky, but if you do it right it should work.
When you want to copy the info back onto the 6310i, just use content copier again, but use it to send it from the pc to the phone. Simple as that really.
