I bought a USB cable for my 7210 at the computer fair the other day and asked the guy if it worked with Nokia PC suite

and guess what, it don't!

it picks up the COM 3 port it's setup for, but does not find the phone

I am thinking it's because the cable I have needs the battery removing and the cable fitted beside the sim card and the battery fits into the cable plastic angling it slightly

it's like this serial cable except it's a USB instead of the serial connection

is this the reason Nokia PC suite wont pick up the phone?

LogoManager and Oxygen Phone Manager II pick up the phone no problem!

it's 4 weeks till the next fair before I can go back and complain but I'd like to make sure it is because of the cable and not me

when I do a connection test I get this result

can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative to the DKU-5 that works with PC suite or isn't there any?

or any software that basically does the same thing as PC suite?

cheers

Go to Maplins and get a USB I-Rda for £19.99, I believe the serial cables (except the expensive Nokia one) don't work with Nokia PC Suite.

Does your MobiMB read the ringtones? Mine doesn't..

any form of cable that connects somewhere other than where Nokia intend it to go will never work with Nokia Data/PC Suite.
Nokia only make a standard USB cable for the 7210/6610 that connects via the Pop-port at the base of the phone, which will work with the software.
I'd suggest taking it back and at least trying to get your money back, tho it's not likley. But if you mention he said it would work with Nokia data suite and it wont, then he should take it back really. Then, buy that infrared adapter that asphaltic99 suggested :)

thanks for info guys

I have MobiMB 1.2.5 now and it basically does what I want regarding Logo's/Tones etc and find it simple to use

it reads & writes tones/logos/backgrounds/games etc just by dragging and dropping

does Nokia PC Suite offer that many more options that other software that is available?

If I goto fair and see the guy again I will still mention the fact he gave me wrong information and see what his response is

I can be very awkward too :p, I may get some sort of compensation

cheers

I think it does. It has PC sync which lets you synchronize your phone's data (appointments etc) with your PC.

BUt just lately I found that the PC Suite I was using for my 6100 (5.1 UK version) kept on trying to re-install itsef whenever the PC was switched on and the only way I could get rid of it was a full system restore. I reckon there's a bug in it somewhere or else something else on my PC was interfering with it. So I'm not using it now.

I have Oxygen and MobiMB 1.2.5 (both legit versions) but find that my IR device keeps dropping the signals. MobiMB won't read the tones on my phone and Oxygen keeps asking me if I want to back everything up all the time.

i use Nokia Data Suite v.5.0.23.07, and i've ad no problem as of yet, so it could be a conflict with your system rather than the software itself.

@ Daedalus

Would the PC suite for the 5100 work with the 6100??

should do.
according to my version, it supports the 5100, 6100, 6610 and 7210.

i use MobiMB Mobile Media Browser v1.2 for my wifes 7210 with a infared adapter works fine and allows you to put games in the games folder, where the nokia suite always puts them in the applications folder, but be careful sometimes the MobiMB Mobile Media Browser delets stuff off the fone with out me wanting it to

There is an addition to the Nokia PC suite called 'Games Installer'.

iv bought two data cables now, a D port and a DKU-5 usb cable and neither of them work which the software im using (oxygen phone manager, MobiMB etc) i know the D port one wont work with nokia data suite but shouldnt the usb one? The usb one is detected by the computer bu not by the software :s Is it my phone (6100) or the cable? And the D port cable just doesnt detect at all.

Have i just bought dodgey items off ebay ?

Any help would be great Thanks!!

Hi. Can anyone help me with a little problem? I have a Nokia 7210 phone and want to use the content copier in my PC Suite (version 5.1) to copy all my text messages to my pc. I have the messages all arranged in folders according to who they are from etc. However, the content copier will only download the messages in the inbox and ignores all the other folders. I used to do this with my old 7110 and the content copier used to copy all the folders with no problem. My reason for doing this and not using the phone editor is that the content copier puts all the messages into one file which I then put into a spread sheet. Sorry, I seem to have waffled on a bit there. Any help would be really appreciated :)
