I have decided to get a webcam, and need to know what type of things to look for before i buy?

Has anyone here got one? what is the best cam thingy res? and also i have seen some but the frames per second is a bit confusing as i dont know what it means?

I dont know if i will get on with it so dont want to spend a fortune as it is only for MSN.

So if anyone can make any suggestions it would be appreciated as usual.

Well I'm using my digital camera as a webcam, and suprisingly it works really well, although you need alot of light shining on it for it to work properly, but my rooms really naturally dark anyway.
But my grandma just got one for £60 thats really good quality, and its got a built in microphone too!
I think its a Logitech QuickPix 4000 something or other, but nice webcam for the money.

Hi bunny. Frames per second (FPS) is how many pictures it captures (running optimally) in a second. E.g. the human eye works at 24 FPS. So anything faster than that should be ok and look really smooth. if its less the picture may look jerky.
My web cam is an old cheep digital camera so i dont know whats best out there at the mo.

Yeh. I'm on dial up too. The reason why i stopped using it was because the FPS dropped off when i was connected. A dedicated web cam should work better if you keep the res lowish (below 640*480).

i got a free logitech webcam when i got aol broadband, but its only work£40, frame rate aint to good, u should really get one with a USB2 because they run much more smoother & real time especially on broadband connections
