Its great matey
sounds good, and when it comes out will it be free, like hotmail?
it probably wont but if not nothing beats hotmail, cause its freeeeeeeeee!

You don't know what Gmail is?
No, because I have a life outside of the Internet :elvis:
Chris Reilly

Yep free.
Hotmail is rubbish, it soon has to upgrade to try and beat Gmail, which aint even open. and yahoo upgraded today to 100mb, which is still nothing compared with Gmail

Even then I've got better things to do than read up on everything about computers. Mobile Phones are my subject and I'm not shy about it, but at least if someone says "Whats that?" I dont say "god you don't even know what THAT is, have you been living under a rock for the last 5 minutes or something?".
Next time, think about other people before you assume, as usual...

I have it because i bought it. Its a massive craze across the net, i think its madness
unbelievable....... on ebay lol.......whats the thing about it that makes it so diff then Chris?
Chris Reilly
16-06-2004, 20:56
The inbox size is 1000mb
Meaning you really never have to worry about deleting emails.
how much are you charging then?

lol, just funny how there are plenty of normal non-HTML based web services out there, and whatever limit your hard drive has for e-mail using Outlook.
I mean yes I use Hotmail, but size has never been that much of an issue, so it certainly is of no interest to me. People who want to send me big files do so by other means such as MSN or actually give it to me on a CD (by post or in person), so there are ways of getting round it.
Chris Reilly
16-06-2004, 21:39
Correct, i also do it that way.
Although Gmail will one day stop that
When you use the Google toolbar it sends anonymous surfing info to them if you select the 'advanced' option.
Will Gmail send them back your e-mailing habits? Will they pass on your e-mail address and the address of the person you are mailing to other companies? They have to make money out of it somehow and I bet there are companies and dodgy individuals who would pay for your e-mail addy...
I think that was the thing i was reading a while ago Nick........cant remember who but someone was taking google to court to try to prevent Gmail, or something like that anyway.
There was an issue with them gathering your info in some way or other, was in a magazine i was reading, i will try and find it.
Chris Reilly
16-06-2004, 23:15
Bunny, you mean because of the name?
Gmail was formaly a few things, then Google came and played the big 'i am' and won the case
They make money through google ads in the app :), they wouldnt pass on addys
no not because of the name, will try and find that article that i mentioned, apart from the storage cant see what the diff would be from normal web based email.

If your intrested i have them at $6 each.
You can look on Ebay and see on the main page they are cheaper then that, but trust me 3/10 go cheaper then $5
Daedalus

Hmm, talk about a leap of faith... :)

Good find 99shassan.....there is deffo a lot of conroversey over Gmail.
Right i made up my mind, i keeping away from G-Mail, gd searchin 99shassan.
I'd steer clear too they want to search our private emails for advertising purposes......no chance !!!!!
Hehe they wouldn't get any advertising ideas from mine.......
Anyway Hotmail upping their free limit to 250MB (or might be KB, not sure).
Nice if that happens "\o/" but tbh i dont really need alot of space, i mean who needs alot with hotmail:D
99shassan

Same, I can't think there will be anyadvertising for my emails. Yahoo mail now has 100MB and yes hotmail will be getting 250MB. This is great, it's all down to Gmail. You can also get 2gb email from yahoo for less than £1 a month.
i dont believe in paying for email since i subscribed to the Lycos paid for service and it lost 150 odd emails i had saved.
Daedalus
14-07-2004, 21:07
its definetly MB Nick, if it were KB then it'd be less than a tenth of what it is now :)
Its currently something like 5mb with Hotmail I think.
And unlike some of you, I think G-Mail could be a good idea, but mostly for businesses, like if they need to get hold their e-mail where ever they are and they need to store alot of e-mails.
but the biggest thing your forgetting is attachment, think how many times you've recieved and e-mail with a small program or a picture/video that someone's sent you (not spam)? It all takes up a big chunk of your Hotmail account...
Hotmail are allowing attachments of 10MB soon if not already.........thats one email service i really dislike tho, so much spam its not worth using.
Now I have a new hotmail addy i get NO SPAM at all
Yeah but the GMail problem is that they scan all emails incoming and outgoing and display adverts in the bottom of the email which is on the same subject of the email...I just don't agree with them reading my emails to do this targetted advertising...

Even if you think it is safe to delete, it remains on their system even when deleted, they can still read your emails nevertheless.bunny, the reason you recieve those spam emails is because when you signed up you checked those boxes that asked if you like any of those things. I get a lot of junk too, but I can't change becaause I've had that email for more than 5 years, can't let it go. Far to many people no that email and I just don't want any of them losing contact with me.
Thats the annoying thing i didnt tick the boxes!!! but when i went to mark an email as junk it told me i couldnt as it was from the hotmail company itself and advertisements were needed to keep the service free.
I have signed up for vodafone mail which i find to be ok and spam free at the moment anyway.

IT IS NOW ILLEGAL TO SELL GMAIL INVITES ONN EBAY!!!!
Be careful. I read it on a news page a while ago. You can give one away. What I am saying is, if you have songs and things in your gmail. They will hand in all your information to the relevant party and get you in trouble. Even when you delete emails, it will remain in their system so they can still read it.
Chris dont you have to be 18 to sell on ebay?
Daedalus
19-07-2004, 11:45
heh, your right bunny you do....think we should report him to ebay? ;)
Thats why I held off until I was 18, and now I'm getting into it, but I've got a friend who's been doing it since she was 16, and despite the fact I've told her repeatedly that because she's still 17 she's at risk of getting found out and getting in trouble, she ignores me.
Then again she's not the sharpest tool in the shed, I told her once I was busy online because I was multi-tasking, and she did'nt know what it was and said I was lieing, and to this day she refuses to believe what multi-tasking is or that it even exists :bo:
Ebay has enough dodgy sellers without kids trying to be grown up and sell things on there too.

Ebay has enough dodgy sellers without kids trying to be grown up and sell things on there too.
Are you pointing this remark at me?
I am stating the obvious.......i am not saying that you are in anyway dodgy, just that ebay has plenty of dodgy sellers, and kids selling on there when they clearly are not allowed to does not do anything to help ebay.
Rules are there for a reason and companies who have these rules expect people to abide by them and normallyif the rules are broken (as in anywhere else) the person is banned.
If you was to part with money on the internet would yopu be happy to find out that you are dealing with a child?
This thread has gone far enough..

Well, it depends. Because i do not know your definition of 'child'. I have done may deals with the young and old, my father has had one bad expierence on eBay when he sent cash and it was 'lost'.
I never ever judge someone by their age, some kids are more then what people think. The youths of today have a bad name, due to stereotypes. By stereotypes i mean people judging one, the same as all.
No you are missing the point chris........you have to be 18 to sell on ebay, you are not 18 you are 16 so therfore it is you who are breaking the rules.
What comeback would anyone have from you if they had cause to complain?
Rules are there for a reason, they do ask your age when you register as a seller so what did you do about answering that? lie?
Im sure if buyers new how old you really were they would choose not to buy from you...........as D says wait until you are legally old enough to trade, as he has responsibly done.
Chris Reilly

Actually you are missing the point, did i or did i not say its my fathers account?
His credit card, his name, his address. He handles it.
What is bad about that?
So i post a link to 'my auction', i call my dads car my car does that mean im too young too drive and breaking rules?
Get over it ;)
I am fighting a losing battle, and do not have the ego to prove to you that you are wrong and i am not that bothered as my dads a 50 year old man, maybe older then you. So maybe your the youngan here?
I can promote/link to the auction if i like. Doesn't mean its mine, or i own it. So please dont bash me.
Honestly, you really do need to butt out. I am offended by you, me a liar? Its my bloody fathers account.
I am leaving here. No point me visiting to get bashed now is there
Try saying its your fathers account then chris, what are we mindreaders?
There is no need to spit your dummy out, if you want to leave then that is up to you no one is asking you to thats your choice.
But if you were more clear about your posts maybe there would be no more misunderstanding?
And there is no point sending me a pm saying you edited in the details that it was your fathers account, we do not look through back posts to check that someone may have added details.
