View Full Version : Strange A300 problem
I have been using an A300 with an O2 sim card for a while now. I recently upgraded and passed my A300 onto my son, who is also on O2.
However, when he puts his O2 sim card in, the A300 displays the message 'sim lock, Enter password'. I've tried entering his unblocking code, but the A300 says it is the wrong code.
If I put his sim card back in his old phone (nokia 3310) it works fine, and if I put my sim card back into the A300, that also works fine.
My son's sim card is quite an old one, whereas mine is relatively new (12 months old)
Would the age of the sim card make any difference, or does anyone have any other ideas? :bo:
No difference at all....
As you are putting a diferent sim in the phone (albeit the same network) the phone is asking you to 'verify' the sim.
Enter the security code of your Samsung instead of your son's PIN number.
Thanks for that, Nick, I think I see whats happened now. If I put my sim back in and go to security, the sim lock is enabled, but if I try to enter the default password to disable it (00000000), it says wrong password. I guess the password has been changed at some point, but I don't know what it is :ugh:
Is there any way to reset this without a data cable, (apart from trying the 10 million or so combinations)? :big smile
It doesn't have to be 8 numbers.
Try these, 0000,1234,00000,12345.
I just found this. If you type in *2767*2878# (SIM not in phone) it supposedly resets the phone to factory settings (full EEPROM reset). This should put everything back to as it was on day 1.
Let us know how it goes. :wicked:
Ooooooooooooh!, I thought I was getting somewhere!
I tried the *2767*2878# and the phone rebooted itself like it was doing something really serious......but when I put the non-working sim back in and it asked for the password, 00000000 didn't work.
However, if I put the working sim in, and go to security I can change the password, I changed it to 11111111 and I was able to enable and disable the PHONE lock using this password, but when I try to disable the sim lock it says 'wrong password'. Surely it's the same password for both functions?
Any more ideas before I take it up to the market and pay 10 quid to get it reset?
Put the old simcard in the phone. When it asks for the code, try the simcard pin number. With O2, the default pin number is 5555. If it isn't, don't keep trying it cos after 3 incorrect attempts the sim will block itself.
We WILL get this sorted mate....
I'm getting a bit confused now. When you say the old sim, do you mean the one that works on this phone? If I put this sim in the phone, it doesn't ask for any number, and it boots up fine, I can go into the security menu and turn everything on or off; the pin check (using the pin no. of the sim), I can change the pin, I can turn the phone lock on or off using the password (00000000), I can even change the password, but when I try to turn the sim lock off and put in the password, it tells me 'wrong password'.
It seems that I have control over the password, as I can change it from the default setting, but it will not accept it to turn off the sim lock. :ugh:
Put the sim in that does not work in the phone. Then when it asks you for a code, put the pin number of that sim in.
My 630 does that whenever I put in another sim thats different.
EG Sim 1 works ok (your simcard).
Put in sim 2 (your sons simcard) and it asks 'enter code'. Put in
the pin number of that sim and BINGO!!!!
I think thats probably the best way to explain it....
Just tried that. The pin of the non working sim is set to 5555. I checked this by putting it into a different phone.
But the A300 still says 'wrong password'
That didn't work? That does surprise me Ant...
Will have another look around for you, but if it works with your sim and not your sons I think it may just be the sim after all of this. You did say it was an old one...... :(
You could send O2 an email and tell them that the sim has stopped working in your phone and can they send you a replacement simcard. They have done this for me once before... Or you could just swap simcards with your son.
Has been suggested to put in this code *2767*637# WITHOUT THE SIMCARD IN THE PHONE. I have NO IDEA what this doesthough, I am waiting to find out.
Just tried that, Nick, and it says 'wrong entry'.
Oh well , I guess your idea of swapping sims is a pretty good idea, (often the simplest solutions are the hardest to find!)
I just don't like giving in to the Great God Technology!
Thanks for all your help, anyway, and I'll keep reading this forum in case anything else comes to light
Ant :)
I think a phone shop will be your next stop.
Sorry I couldn't sort this for you. :pissed:
