Here is something new I came across that you might wanna try:

All codes are simply entered in the main screen menu as if you were dialing a phone number.

Enhanced Full Rate (EFR):
*3370# to activate EFR. Makes calls sound better, but decreases battery life by about 5%.
#3370# to deactivate EFR

Half Rate Mode (HFR):
*4720# to activate HFR. Decreases call quality but increases battery life by about 30%.
#4720# to deactivate HFR.

And here are the basic codes if you happen not to know them:

To check firmware revision/release date:
*#0000#

To view serial number:
*#06#

And here is a USEFUL one too:

To view warranty info (serial no./Which date the phone was made/To edit the purchasing date/to check last time repaired/to view the phone's life timer) you will be introduced with a hidden menu:

*#92702689#

Hope you find these codes useful!

UncleBeaker74 had a 3595 like I do and he got his unlocked. I have tried entering the basic serial codes and nothing works.

At the Cingular store they "boosted" my antenna for me. I'm guessing this is Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) but I cannot even do that.

Yes, I simply enter them like a phone call, but nothing happens.

With the EFR I get echos and sometimes voice distortions... I'd rather have it on normal.

well, the serial number is usefull for many things. Lots of websites and phone insurance companys need this number, as do the police if your phone gets stolen.
The warrenty info is just useful in it's own right.
The EFR modes allow you to increase/decrese battery life depending on how fussy you are about call quality. Most phones come with it enabled already anyway.
