View Full Version : Are T-mobile trying to scare me about 3?

Hi there.
I want to give my 30days notice to cancel my t-mobile contract.
They told me that 3 only have 60% coverage, so if I travel around a bit, I won't get good coverage in certain areas.
They also told me that 3 can, at any time, increase line rental charges, by as much as £30??
this sounds a bit dodgy, any ideas? I want the talk and text 600 packages, which themobileoutlet.com are doing for £15 for 12 months, but T-Mobile are putting me off.
Any experience, advice?
cheers.
three use o2 for its voice calls when out of the '3' signal area, so they were probably referring to the video calling side of it, where the reception is lower or non existent you wouldnt be able to video chat, just normal voice calls because the system would change over to O2. And for this i should imagine you would be fine as o2's coverage is pretty good.
I think they have to give you warnings if they are going to put your line rental up, just sounds like T Mobile dont want to lose your custom.
I used '3' for a bit and noticed that as soon as they lowered their handset prices the service did go down quite a bit to be fair, for instance checking emails or just finding out your balance was really hit and miss because it seems to me that they have over subscribed.
If you are going to go over to '3' remember you still have the 14 days cooling off period :) let us know how you get on.
Oh and by the way welcome to the forums :)

Hi
Most providers are still funny about porting a number. Ask T-mobile what there procedure is.
I recon you with have to give notice in writing. I had too. I had trouble with them about 5 months ago. They say they didn’t receive my fax so I would recommend you check that they receive your fax/letter. From here it takes a month to process and then another month to transfer the number. I wasn’t moving to 3 so from here I’m not sure but it should only be a day. I would call customer services regularly to check everything is going ok.
Good luck, Lets us know how you get on.

Thank you. My contract with T-mobile ends on the 8th and they said to ring for the pac number on the 9th.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi! I'm going or the 600 text and talk plan, how about you?
Also, I'm ordering mine from argos mobile, cos you get 1/2 price line rental for twelve months, plus £50 cashback, when does the contract actually start though??
x
ive got the same plan with the LG U8120 and its excellent , before i used to lose the 3 signal often i havent lost the 3 sig on this handset once :)
i had mine from cpw with the half price line rental for a year, and if i had waited a couple of days i would have had the £50 cashback too but they wernt doing it when i took out my contract.
I dont know when the contract starts i think its from the day you activate your phone? will have to find out.
Are we also entitled to the first months content free also?

Hiya! It's good news, hearing you say you've had a good experience with this deal AND the phone! I must be onto a winner! lol (I pray)
I've just checked the site again, and yep, it comes with free content for a month!
Now, is the 8120 blue tooth??? cos e2save.com seem to have a bluetooth handset free with their deal!?
no its not bluetooth even tho i have seen them advertise it as bluetooth.
It does come with a usb cable and even ive got the software working like a dream :)

I knew it! argh! why do they post so much rubbish!
I don't get a data cable with the argos deal, am I missing out on much?
i think you will get a cable cos it comes as standard in the box :) but yes it is annoying when the companies advertise wrong........you are going to be soooo chuffed tho :)

Woo hoo! Great stuff! I can hardly wait! I might just go ahead and order it now.
Are you past your 14 day peace of mind? I'm thinking, if I order now, It won't take as long to get my number ported after the 9th of october, but people are telling me not to port till i'm satisfied after 14 days. Either way, the sooner the better I reckon.
x
no ive only had mine since last wednesday, and i normally chop and change phones but this one is deffo staying:)
order it and as you say you have is it 14 days to cancel? if you dont like it. Today tho is the first time ive charged my battery since the initial charge and i have been giving it some heavy usage so well pleased with that too :)

I've ordered it! It'll be here on Friday! :D
excellent i dont think you will be dissapointed, let us know what you think :)
Good choice Charlene...
E2save have been selling it with a bluetooth headset. Having checked it out on another forum, it appears they are selling it with a Bluetooth adaptor that allows the headset to work on the phone too.
E2 save are part of the carphone warehouse arnt they?

I do, it's a lot bigger than I expected though, but it seems easy to use.
Did you start making calls straight away?
I have the '3' sign up which indicates it's been connected.
x
I had to wait a couple of hours to have mine activated, you are right its not the smallest handset but for 3 it is lol.
What handset are were you using before?

LOL, so i've heard.
I had the samsung s300 - Tmobile realeased the pac number, but i'm having second thoughts about transferring it, do you know if you can transfer a number to a pay as you go phone on another network?
Is it alright to make calls now? My friend said that her calls came up as unregistered and she was charged??
im not sure about any of that.....Daedalus will maybe be able to help you with that one sorry.

Have'nt actually got a clue, you should be able to start using it a few hours after you get it, if they have'nt told you to hang on then its their cock up if you get charged. If they do charge you, kick up a fuss aobut it and they should give you some credit back on your bill, worked for me when I used to be on O2 :)
well i had mine, waited a couple of hours for it to be activated and started using it, i had my first bill arrive a couple of days ago dated from 26/09/2004 to 22/10/2004, which was from the date i had it, so it looks like they just charge you for the first month, unlike voda ages ago when i had a contract who charged me for a whole month plus a part month.
Dont know if that helps Charlene but you are transferring your number, i had a new number with a new contract, so started from scratch.
If you are stuck phone up the 3 cs and dont be put off by horror stories about how terrible they are, they are ok....... no better or worse than other cs.

What you had with Voda was normal bunny, they charge you for however long it takes between the day you sign the contract and the day you get the bill (the line rental, so if its 2 weeks then they charge you 50% of the monthly line rental) and then the first month in advance, then each month your line rental is charged one month ahead, like any contract. Think you just got lucky with 3 :)
Like my BB D, just been charged for THREE months in advance plus the month ive had it :( im not a happy bunny lol.

Thanks guys! My phone was working as I switched it on! Guess i'm one of the lucky ones!
It's been working fine.
I called T-mobile and I can carry my number to pay as you go, which will be better, I just need the number cos I printed loads of business cards with it on.
ONE MORE QUESTION! Sorry! Are WAP calls included in the 'free time' I say no, husband says yes.
(tried to get through to customer services, no such luck)

Who changed my rank? LMAO
you say wap do you mean the three services? 3 does not support what you would call the normal internet just its own walled garden.....meaning you browse what 3 supply and thats it.
Apparently all content is free for the first month but double check because when i signed with cpw it didnt mention anything about it. So after that it is free to browse but if you want to download anything you will be billed the prices next to the item.
I wouldnt bother buying ringtones or pics because you can do your own with the cable.
I hope you are enjoying it :)
btw what rank lol?

My rank: Funfone Groupie!: Charming!
Thanks for the info, I definitely had 'free content' for a month, so it's obviously free to browse, which is fine, so I'll just check things out as I go along.

Almost two weeks with 3 and so far so good!
Not one dropped call and the phone bill is accurate.
x
i have a really good reception on mine too :)
what do you think of the handset?
charleneUK
18-10-2004, 23:10
Well to be honest, I find the handset really slow, it takes a while to respond to simple things like viewing contacts or whatever.
I've also found the battery isn't lasting as long as I expected. But generally, i'm quite happy with all things it does (not that I know everything)
How about you?
x
really?? i find my excellent, i change phones pretty often but this one im well pleased with :) will be happy to keep it for a year.
charleneUK
18-10-2004, 23:21
LOL, I only get one a year in the first place! lol
I had (still have) a samsung s300 it's small and I guess i'm so used to it, that it's hard getting use to another phone.
