Hello?
I'm Park,choongwoo of embrain(research agency in korea).

We conducted a survey on icons for mobile with UK(and other 3 countries) mobile users Aug.2004.

Now I'm making a report with their data.
And there are some results that need UK's general mobile condition.
So I'm looking for anyone who can give me short comment on UK mobile. Any Englishman who uses mobile is OK.

Attached file<Some question for UK mobile circumstances> is the part of survey results. You don't need to analyze the data. I need your free comment on the results only.

I need your help.. Your short comments on any question of the attached file will be a big help for me to understand the UK mobile condition.

Thanks for your concern.

Sincerely.
Park,choongwoo.

Q1.

I think the icon with the tape/phone indicates a call being recorded but the other icon looks like a play button which would say to me that it's for playing recorded messages.

Q2.

I think the bell icon is the standard icon for alarms the other icon could be seen as a clock function although it obvious that its an alarm clock.

Q3.

I don't think there is a difference between the two its just one person's preference, although I would say that the Voice Mail is the whole thing and voice message is something within the Voice Mail system. ie. you access your voice messages from within voicemail.

Q4.

The icon is not very clear and I would see it as either voice dialling or speakerphone, i'd say that adding a keypad would make it more acceptable as voice command icon

Q5.

It does look like a calender because of the flip over pages and the four lines could indicate four weeks of the month etc. although it is a contacts/phonebook icon it's not very clear, maybe it should have an @ symbol, a phone symbol etc. on the page.

Q6.

Although that icon is becoming more common on phones I'd say that not a lot of people would know what it was unless they'd seen "entertainment" under it before. if there was maybe a musical note and a little spaceship instead of stars it might be recognised more.

Q7.

Again, this is another icon that is not very clear what it is but given the options i would of picked vibration, maybe if the icon had two curved lines either side of the phone it would be more easily recognised.

Q8.

I couldn't really tell you what the first image means to me as I cannot determine anything from the icon, the second icon would indicate to me that its an attachment to a message, the third would indicate to me an internet message and the fourth looks like an email message.

It looks to me that this survey was took by people who do not have a wide knowledge of mobile phones, but icons are important in getting across the message of what its for, so icons need to be detailed but at the same time simple for people who do not know functions of new mobile devices etc.

Hope I've helped ;)

Dear Šeton8r..

Thanks for your answer.
Your comments was very helpful for me to make a report.

I think there will be no additional answer, so I deleted the attached file.

Have a nice day!
