Have just seen a really good deal on 3 network.
Free LG 8120 mobile with bluetooth headset.
500 mins cross network mins and 100 texts a month for £15 (half price line rental for 12 months)
Sounds like a very good deal to me, just have a few questions about the phone. If anyone could answer them for me i would be extremely gratefull.
1. The phone has 32mb built in memory. How many mp3's will this be able to hold?? Also would it hold a lot of games, videos etc?
2. Is it easy to transfer video files from pc to the phone?? It comes with connection cable.
3. They also have the nec e616v. Would this be a better phone to get. It seems to be roughly the same, with the adition of built in bluetooth and expandable memory, but its pretty ugly in my opinion.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
hello and welcome :) stay long and post often ;)
i have the same phone and the same deal so here goes.....
1.....depends on how much you compress the mp3's, as a rule of thumb 1mb = 1 min so really you wouldnt hold very much as the memory is dynamic which means its shared with your address book and pictures etc. I have a fair amount of videos and pictures stored on mine but no games, but you would be able to store enough to keep yourself amused :)
2........the software is really easy to use, even i can use it ok, it seems stable even tho i have heard that there has been probs with the software i havent had any trouble at all.
3.........the nec e616v is totally your own choice but as i understand it the nec's are not as good or reliable as the LG'S so out of the two i would stick to what i have already the LG.
hope this helps a bit please feel free to ask if you need to know anything else.

Thanks for the advice.
I actually ordered it yesterday when i saw the deal but have been having second thoughts about the phone and network.
Ive heard a lot of bad things about 3 having problems with dropped calls/calls not connecting (video and voice calls).
But as my existing contract (T mobile) has almost run out i thought id give it a go.
I just hope the service is not as bad as ive been told.
Just 1 more question, whats the camera quality like on the phone? for photos and video? At the moment i have the samsung e700 and i think that the quality is pretty good.
there are some pics i posted here.....
http://www.funfonechat.com/showthread.php?t=3424
the quality is not as good as the samsung im aftraid but they are ok, the videos are a bit grainy on the pc screen but on the handset screen they are ok.
I had doubts like you but with this model i havent once dropped a call unlike when i was on 3 pay i dropped calls quite often.
3 do have a poor press but i can only speak from experience and i find them to be excellent, their customer service is as good as any other network so dont listen to the horror stories.
Let us know how you get on and what you think :)

Also to point out, the phone does'nt have Bluetooth, so the headset their going to send you will most likely come with an adapter that you'll have to plug into the phone, so you'll have a wireless headset, but the phone will still be physically attached to a little transmitter/reciever on a headset cord that plugs into the phone. And the Bluetooth will be audio only, no data.

One more quick question.
Can I upload any type of video files from my pc to the phone (if i can do this at all) or do they have to be a certain type.
Cheers.
the only ones ive tried so far are the 3gp file formats but i believe it accepts jpegs and mpegs altho dont quote me on this.

Sounds good.
Thanks again for all your help.
Just thought of a couple of other things i'd like to know.
Can u use real music as your ring tone??
Can you download free java games from net and transfer them from pc to phone? If not, where do i get/how much are good games?
And also
I think thats it .
Thanks a lot.

No you can't use real music as a ringtone, despite it having MP3 playback through a loudspeaker but only for listening to music not for ringtones (stupid software if you ask me, not being able to use it for MP3 ringtones when it has an MP3 player).
Games can only be purchased from '3' own 'walled garden' approach WAP site, which you can access by pressing the triangle looking button on your handset and connecting to 3's services. I think they cost some absurd amount, but I don't know, because I don't play games on my phone and if I do I never pay for them.
sorry to disagree but yes you can download games to your pc and transfer them to your phone using the data cable, dont think there are many out there tho but it can deffo be done.
You can also use your mp3's as ringtones D, i have george michaels freeek at the moment ;) but you cant use them for anything other than ringtones, you cant for example use them for text alerts or alarm calls.

Ahh, ok, did'nt know that. Thanks bunny, that actually helps alot, because I've been telling customers that it does'nt have MP3 ringtones, but if it does then whoops! My bad :)
That'll help sell a few more :)
I had probs getting my phone connected to my PC (apparently some sort of conflict with XP SP2). Bunny told me about this...
So I tried, and sure enough it didn't work.
Advice to anyone else, connect the phone, go to CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>HARDWARE>DRIVERS. Look for yellow triangles, then put the CD in your drive, right click and update drivers. Worked for me....
excellent nick :) a lot of people havent been able to connect their phone to their pc still.....i have never had that prob because i think its cos im running ME and not XP.
