I followed the instructions on how to setup connection with mobile and PC, firstly failed on connecting with Dell desktop, no matter how many times I tried, even call the technical support; but successfully made it through on connection with Sony laptop.
I don't know why!!!
Is that because of USB connection speed, laptop is USB1.0, while desktop is USB2.0, but not sure about the USB cable connected which is came from manufacture box.
If you know what kind of issue it might be, please drop me an note to let me fix this. It may not be the same case when you have the same handset. But your experience may help me on solving this problem. Thanks!

Is your Dell desktop Windows XP, if SP2 is loaded the firewall may actually stop ActiveSync connecting... There shouldn't be any issue with USB 2.0.

Hi,

I've got a C500 and want to transfer my contacts (about 170) from the phone to my PC using Activesync and a USB cable. Here's what happens when I try: The phone connects and the Active Sync Window on the PC tells me that 170 contacts have not been synced. I then press the sync button and it starts. The green bar that shows progress then gets stuck about half way, while the green round logo thing continues spinning. The count of contacts synchronised is stuck at between 20 and 50 odd (the number varies each time I try).

Rather annoying, but perhaps to be expected when using something from Microsoft.

Anyway, here's what I've tried so far to remedy this:

I've left it, hoping that it will eventually go through, although after 10 or 15 minutes I give up and disconnect (the stop button does just ignores you).

I've turned off all firewalls, antivirus programmes etc.

I've reinstalled Active Sync, different versions from the Microsoft website as well as from the CD ROMs I have (one that came with this phone, another that came with a previous Windows Mobile phone I had).

I've reinstalled various versions of Outlook (2000 to 2003).

I've restarted the PC and the Phone.

I've formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows (it had to be done anyway!).

Tried scanpst.exe (not since I reinstalled Windows though).

Called Orange - got through to someone who suggested various things, including checking that the active sync on the phone is set to connect to PC (it is). I got as far as trying detect and repair on Outlook, then had to end the call because I was going out. Detect and Repair did not work.

Anyone got any ideas?

Ben
