HELP using data cable for 3510i

i am trying to getdata from my pc to my phone but keep geting phone not connected.What am i doing wrong :

ok, break it down.
what cable are you using (official or not?)
what software are you using?
is it USB or serial?
and what data are you trying to get onto the phone and how are you doing it?

until you answer these, we can't help :)

I dont know if its offical or not
software is nokia ultamate cd rom
its serial
ringtones and wllpapper and am trying to use nokia contents copier

right, make sure the phone and serial plug are properly connected. then check that the serial port is activated in the bios (if your not sure what that means, get someone who knows about computers to do it for you) then make sure that windows recognizes that the serial port exists (same, get someone to do it for you). if it still does'nt work, then i'm not sure right now. Serial cables can be a real pain in the ass and are very hard to get to work.

...and make sure you're using the right COM port ie. COM1 or COM2!
