View Full Version : creative batteries?
I have had a creative zen touch bought for me today, the battery is a rechargable lithium ion....the manual does not give any advice at all about recharging so i wondered whats the best thing to do?
Are these the same batteries in mobile phones that you have to fully charge and then dishcharge a number of times? any advice on this would be greatly appreciated as i dont want to knacker the battery up.
I think with any rechargeable battery that would be the best way to get MAXIMUM life out of them, but I do remember reading that lithium ion batterys don't have a 'memory' as such and can be charged up whenever needed even if they are half full and that doing that won't make any difference to the life of the battery.
It seems a rather grey area with people saying different things though (confusing too).
i know it is confusing....the book that came with it isnt much help either....thanks for your help nick, much appreciated.
User manuals never are very good.
You get more info asking around - manuals are a waste of paper.
anyone else have an ideas? there must be someone on here who knows a bit about batteries?

What I did with my Creative MuVo was just to charge it as the manual said, which was about 4 hours, and I've never had any problems with it. It came completely discharged unlike mobile phone batteries, so I just charged it as it suggested.
See Nick, manuals are usefull ;)
Thanks D :) mine said four hours too so have done that, so it should be ok.
I just found this - might be of interest http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm

Hi Sarah,
I have a Creative Zen and you don't need to worry about the batteries. You always give the first charge a good long charge for 4 hours and after that I wait while the battery flattens and then recharge according to icon on the screen. Mine takes just over an hour and a half to. re-charge.

hiya Paul,
i was a bit concerned about the battery life, but i have charged it for the full time and i have been putting my music on it so it all seems fine :) am really pleased with it :)
I've got a Creative Touch and before I bought it I read:
The first time run it completly down then fully recharge it
Do this again for the next three times
Then around every 30th time fully run it down then fully charge it
Thanks Ashan....how are you getting on with yours?
Its great, so much fun. Still trying to fill it up though, think I have used less than 1/4 but ah well, provides me with a challenge. Very easy to just add songs to it, which is ace. Battery wise its been fine, bit weird at times but nothing like my old MD player (I once watched it go from 4/4 to 3, to 2, to 1 in a few seconds).
I tend to carry it around with me mostly everywhere, never know when it'll come in handy, like at work yesterday. Had to go read the "green standards" (31 pages of boringness) so I put on my MP3 player, turned up the volume and put the headphones by my side.
