Nintendo is to re-release its Game Boy Advance SP handheld games console in a new slimline casing and re-brand it as the Game Boy Micro, the company announced yesterday.

The Micro's 10 x 5 x 1.8cm silver shell is pitched at consumers who have become accustomed to stylish personal music players rather than the boxy, plastic game consoles of yore. The Micro weighs a mere 79g.

And in a touch borrowed from the mobile phone world, the Micro's face-plate slips off past the 2in backlit colour display, allowing Nintendo to sell punters replacement covers in different colours and styles. Speaking of the display, Nintendo said the screen has its own brightness control.

The outer casing may be new, but the internals are pure GBA SP, ensuring full compatibility with all the hundreds of games available for the platform.

Oh, and something that looks like a futuristic bread bin, the Playstation 3, with its bizarre looking (horrible if you ask me) controllers:

The new Game Boy looks like one of those old LCD Donkey Kong games from years ago. :amazed:

The Game & Watch? Yeah a little bit, although people have likened the idea of the DS more to that.

But its going to be diddy, same size as an ipod mini (saw one of them the other day, their pretty small!) and 2/3 the weight, plus whats being said to be the best Nintendo handheld screen to date (in terms of quality) as well as adjustable brightness sounds good.

I love the game & watch! I've got the blue one (cant remember the actual game...). I wudnt buy the Gameboy Micro tho- seems abit pointless (i guess not so much for peeps who havent got any sort of Gameboy Advance).

Yeah the Gameboy Micro is a bit pointless if you've already got a GBA SP, if you've got a regular GBA and play on it quite a bit, then this might be a worthy upgrade, more so than the SP. Seeing as its less than half the size and about 1/3 the weight of the original, plus backlight adjustable screen and changeable faceplates too.

I definetely want the XBox 360 and Nintendo Revolution. Prolly get the 360 to replace the family XBox downstairs, but mostly because I can stream all our movies, videos and music from our PC's upstairs via Wi-Fi downstairs to the 360, meaning we can have it all coming out of the big screen TV and the nicer sound system downstairs :) :)

You're bound to win one ;)

Dylan wants one of the new X-Boxes, but methinks he might have to wait a bit - a BIG bit.

I havent seen the X box's...but the playstation silver ones are nice to look at and there is a fair choice of games for them and not just the expensive ones, there is a shop in ponty called gamestation and they sell preowned playstaton games, four for £20, which i thought was pretty good.

Sam deffo wants one...will keep trying the comps for a while, but if not then he can have one for christmas. Bit off topic but i was reading in the t&c for wannadoo and it looks like i may have to wait for up to five months for the Canon that i won to arrive....so hopefully that will be in time for christmas lol.

Nick, I meant i was going to have the Xbox 360 downstairs, thats the whole point of having the wifi streaming thing.

bunny, xbox's are good but take up a fair ammount of room (the 360 does'nt tho), and the slimline silver PS2's may look good, but like the original they still suffer from that really poor and major fault with the lenses.

The original PS2 had problems with the CD tray mechanism breaking down and the lenses packing up, and some people went through 7 or 8 under the 12 month warranty and they still went wrong. And some people have already started saying the slimline one (that pops up like your GameCube) have had similar problems and pack up really quickly.

Thats what happens when Sony rush the manufacturing process to keep up with demand.

Its quality not quantity Sony ;)
