Hi there,

I have a 7270 which is cute and i generally like it, however, i do have a minor nark.

The ability to gain signal is tragic at times!!! Is this a known feature of the phone?

This is such a problem that I am in full contemplation of buying a replacement, however i need to know that the replacement is going to be significantly better! So does anyone know if the 6610i would be superior?

Many thanks

Adam

Varies from phone to phone I should think.

I used to have a Samsung T100 and the signal was awful in areas of weak reception, whereas in the same area with a Nokia I used to get an excellent signal.

Maybe it's the network itself thats the problem and not the phone.

Hi Adam

My daughter has the 6610i and the signal strength is fine, however, i would deffo think twice about buying the 6610i...i honestly cant think of a good thing to say about it apart from its easy to unlock.

I have the nokia 6170 and despite having an excellent coverage with Orange the signal strength on this particular model is also useless!!! on reading reviews of it it seems that this is a universal problem.....so mine is resigned to the drawer and i use my k700i instead.

If you are looking to change it there are a load of handsets on offer ( see the best offer thread) i would deffo think twice before buying the 6610i.

The 6170 and 7270 are pretty much the same phone so that makes sense thanks Sarah.

The reason the 6610i came to mind is because it can be had for £40 from O2 refurb..... is there a better phone available for the money!?

What specifically is wrong with it? My Mum had a 6610 (old one with mono screen) and it seemed fine, in fact it seemed quite good because it had and still has better battery life than any phone i have owned.

Thanks!

There is nothing major wrong with it, the one my daughter has has had no software problems at all.....she had it for christmas last year and the case is literally falling apart (altho i suspect that its her lack of respect for the handset....which drives me up the wall).
The screen is low spec but as you say for £40 you cant expect too much;) The battery life is something that is very important to me so i know what you mean....and in fairness hers is still going strong.....but for battery life on a budget handset you cannot beat the nokia 1100 (my other daughter has that one until christmas when shes having a new one).

The 1100 can be picked up for £30 i think it is, but personally if you are looking for a cracking phone (in my opinion anyway lol ;) ) then you can get the SE T630 on O2 (which is actually unlocked to accept any sim card) from the link for i think it is £59.00 :)

Thanks Sarah,

The T630 does seem pretty reasonable, i actually owned one previously and returned it because of the menu system being too foreign to my nokia'd hands! My recollection of it is that its battery life wasnt exactly superb..... Really the battery and the signal strength are my main buying points. What is the sony's signal like?

Many thanks

My K700i signals strength is full bars where i live, but that is on Orange which is pretty good round here, the 6170 which was also on orange was averaging one bar but more often than not zero :(
I agree battery life with SE's are not as good as Nokias....but i dont think anything comes close to them really in terms of stanby, and since the SE's are a lot lower in price lately thanks to the addition of the K750i then i personally think the SE's are far better for the money and feature wise compared to Nokia.

Its true the menus do take some getting used to but perseverance (spelling lol? ) and they are really just as easy to get used to as nokia :)

let us know what you decide on and how you get on ;)
