Hi there, hello to all as its my first post. just wondered if anyone knew whether or not i could unlock my d500 (its a newer one so itll have to be by clip or so ive heard) and im hoping to use a sim card from my old nokia 7600 in it which is on the 3 network. ive heard it might not work from someone on ebay but wanted to get ur opinions as to whether or not it is worth paying money for the clip (obviously if you know it doesnt work then i wont buy one). any help would be greatly appreciated.

i wouldnt have thought it would work as 3 use different simcards to ordinary operators, think its something to do with the voltage.

Sarah is right, it's not going to happen.

And also, the 3G signal is on a different band, which the D500 can't access.

well basically i have a d500 on vodafone, and a 6630 on 3, is there anyway i can get it so i can use both sims in the same fone? i have to keep both contracts going but would like to sell one of them cos i need the cash. i know u sed that the 3 sim works on different voltage but would it work the other way round with the vodafone in the 6630 (if i can find a way to unlock it, that is)??????????

The 6630 is available to use on 3 but as of yet we have not got the correct software to unlock it, my local shop wont even touch that model yet.

The thing is with 3 if they get an inkling that you are using their sims in normal handsets they will end up blocking your sim.

Even if you did manage to find a place to unlock your 6630 you would need the phone reflashed as the 3g phones work on different bands and as far as im aware a 3g sim will not work in a 2.5g handset.

If i was you i would advise you to leave well alone as swopping the sims around is going to cause you so much hassle.

Cant you drop one of them to the lowest tariff and just pay it off?

At the moment I have read the only way to get the 6630 unlocked is by Vodafone themselves.Apparently before Vodafone will give you the code they may (and I am not 100% certain of this) insist you pay off the contract in full (eg if it's an 12 month contract and you still have 10 months rental to pay, you have to pay them the money still due). So if the contract is a £30 a month one thats a VERY expensive unlock code. Best thing is to contact Vodafone themselves and ask. Someone on another forum said that the code only cost them £20 from Voda themselves.

If I was you I would keep the D500, sell the 6630 on eBay and buy a cheap 3 phone (eg NEC313 or Moto C975) for about £40 tops.

Nick i cant see the vodafone sim working in the 6630 if it is locked to 3. Its the same as my 7600 which is locked to 3......i cant put another network sim in it, unless i have the 7600 unlocked and reflashed and i would imagine its the same for the 6630, same principle i should imagine.
Unless the phone has been reflashed the phone will still try and latch onto a 3g signal instead of a 2.5 one.

if i were to unlock and reflash the d500 (preferable if possible) could i use the 3 card in it then. if not how would i go about getting my 6630 unlocked and reflashed. just at a local 3 shop or like a market shop?

you cannot use a 3 sim card in the D500.

Only vodafone will unlock the 6630 at present....once the contract is paid up, a market stall will not have the software because at the moment nobody has the software.
