Hi there, i've just today recieved my new samsung D500 on the orange network.

I want to use my old O2 simcard with it, and i'd also like to get rid of the stupid custom orange software which takes up half of the wallpaper and makes the menu look dull etc.

I know i can take my phone into town to some shop (what kind of shop does it? i mean, could i take it to the O2 shop or something like "the link" or does it have to be a special kind of shop? we have 1 in my town called "the phone doctor" which i thought might do this sort of thing).

Also, would where i take it to be unlocked, be able to do the debranding of it too? or is that something which the only way i'd get it done would be to buy my own data cable and get the software to do it myself?

Also, i know there is a problem with unlocking an orange network D500 to use an O2 sim, and that it needs to be "flashed" for it to work, will wherever i go to get it unlocked be able to do this aswell?

I've never had to unlock a phone before so sorry if i sound a bit stupid, all this is stuff i have read at various places on the net.

Thanks for your time,

Matt.

i`m sure he will be able to do it for you, if it had been one of the guys i knew it would have been a bit cheaper

that guy also involves sending the phone off in the post, the phone doctor i'm talking about in chester is an actual shop, i'm gonna go tomorrow with it and see what he says.

Cheers for your help.

well had no luck today, the phone doctor isn't there anymore :(. so i went to phones 4 u and asked if they knew anywhere, and they actually did, so i went there, but was told that he could unlock it for me for 15 quid, but he couldn't debrand it at the moment because the ftp server they used to get the firmware from was currently down and may not be up for around 2 weeks, and if i didn't get them done both together then i would have to pay twice to have it all done. so i'm stuck, if i buy a cable off ebay reckon i can do it myself?

can i see proof of these excellent ratings anywhere? with the amount of scammers out there i'm already a bit cautious about sending it off to someone to have it done.
