Hi all,

I have the Emblaze Sting 6 phone pay as u go which is pretty new.
I tried downloading the free wallpapers from http://www.freemobilefun.net/ and other free wap sites too from my wap on my phone but no luck.

each time I goto save the wallpaper I get this message --> WAP Unsupported content type.

I figure my screen size is 128x160 is there anyone who can help or at least tell me why it says WAP unsupported content type for every wallpaper I've tried to download from freemobilefun.net and other sites that offer them for free?

Thanks in advance

this is my 1st phone so forgive me if its all new to me :frown:

a few details about my phone I only got it 2 weeks ago, my phone is locked to virgins network, could that be why I get WAP unsupported content type when I try to download any wallpapers from any sites I've tried?

I have got 2 ringtones so far from virgins mobile site neither arrived so I had to call them, then I got a service message link to the downloads and was able to download both ringtones successfully. as for wallpapers or anything else, none is available for my phone on their site yet.

I know my phone is new and there isn't even a single review on the net for it, I was thinking maybe since my phone is not listed anywhere maybe nothing can be downloaded for my phone till sites have it listed and supported?

and as for now I can't use the software to connect my phone to the PC and upload stuff to my phone and try it like that. so plz if anyone could tell me whats going on when I try to do it through the wap on my phone why I always get WAP unsupported content type for any wallpapers I've tried downloading/saving to my phone. :frown:

please any advice or info would be useful as I am totally new to it all.

Thanks.

Hi there, I am not too sure on the answer to your question, maybe Virgin could help, if not then try emailing the site you are downloading from. Like you say, it is a new phone and it might take time for support and media to be made available to it. As for a review, check the review out on this site.
http://www.mymob.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5903
Other than your issues, from the feedback I have heard, most people seem very happy with the phone and I will certainly be interested to see if there will be any more phones from Emblaze's range next year, perhaps on other netwroks also. In the meantime, if I hear about how to solve your download problem I will let you know. Happy Christmas.

Have you downloaded any wallpapers for your fone free or paid for ones?
Cause if you have then I need to figure out why I cant.

Thanks for the reply and advice, I've sent an email to Virgin Tech and I'm awaiting for a reply from them to see if maybe they can help or explain things to me. I'll post what they say once I get an email back from them.

I do like my phone, my gf bought it for me as an xmas present, she knew it was the phone I was interested and liked and we went and saw it in a Virgin store and she bought it for me then which was on 5th Dec :kid:

I don't mind if I can't download any wallpapers for now, I just need to know why so otherwise it will get on my nerves till I can figure it out lol.

Thanls once again and have a Merry Christmas too :kid:

Below is the email I got back from Virgin tech email, they couldn't help with the problem as stated in my original post, but they were able to answer a few things like my phone supports animated wallpapers and kinda stating that the phone needs to be supported first, which it isn't by anyone! yet not even Virgins own site has the EMBLAZE Sting 6 phone listed yet or supported, so ironically nothing is available for my phone via them on their site even though they suggest I go there and my phone is not yet listed where I can see whats available for it.

So Virgin WAP on the phone has been the only place where they had stuff for the phone just the xmas and best of 2005 ringtones which I already first saw and bought 2 of the ringtones. Now I want some mobile wallpapers but virgin ain't got any for my phone maybe in future they will. this site I came across http://www.freemobilefun.net/ has them for free but I can't save any from them on the WAP no matter what I do and the other sites I've tried each try has come up with WAP unsupported content type msg on my phone.

so I guess the phone is not supported anywhere at the moment since its still very new and maybe in time will be supported hopefully virgins site for 1 first lol

so is there anyone who has been able to download any free mobile wallpaper to their emblaze sting 6 phone?
if not guess this prob applies to all of those with this phone for now until maybe early next year when support materialises and our phone is listed.

Thanks

Hi *****,

Thanks for your email to Virgin Mobile about downloading wallpapers for your phone. We apologise for the delay in replying to you.

We're sorry to hear that you've been unable to receive the ringtones you've tried to download from websites.

We're unable to guarantee that your phone will be able to receive downloadable items from third party sites. These sites may be offering content that's not suitable for your particular phone.

If it's ringtones, graphics or games you're after, just log onto our website at virgin.com/mobile and take a look. There are hundreds to choose from.

They're available for most makes of phone - the full list of compatible phones is available online. Log on and take a look!

When you log in to our website, you'll enter the type of phone you have and you'll only be shown content that your phone is capable of downloading.

Also, when you download from our site, we're able to ensure that you receive what you've ordered or to investigate further if you don't.

Your phone can support animated wallpapers, so just visit our website to see what's available.

If there's anything else we can help you with, just reply to this email. You can also give us a call on 789 from your Virgin Mobile phone – it's just 10p, no matter how long you talk for. Or, you can call us on 0845 6000 789 from a fixed line phone. These calls are charged at local rate.

Hi
Does anyone know if this phone should have sound when you video and also the 'call key' on mine does not light up, phoned Virgin and they said it probably should but don't know for certain (sounds like no one has had training on this phone yet cos its new) so they have sent me another phone and guess what this one doesn't light up either!
Any responses would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi Shell,

I just called voice mailbox to check for you twice, no the call key doesn't light up when u call, mine didn't both times.
the cancel call key button instead lights up in the backlight colour, for a sec

so in answer to that No the 'call key' doesn't light up. "well doesn't in mine either"

as for sound when u record a video clip, I did record 2 video clips when I first got my phone and there was no sound and no option for it with video.

the only possibility of recording sound I think is in the 'Extras' from the menu then goto my collection and record then click 'new record' for recording sound I tried that myself but it didn't record no sound, so as for now I have no idea how to record any sound with my phone, but as for sound with video I think the phone doesn't allow that.

there are no reviews or info on the net so far for the Emblaze Sting 6 phone and no support anywhere apart form the users who own the phone already, Give it a few months or so after new years, hopefully the info on the phone will start appearing on the net.

Hope I could be of some help?

Have a Happy New Year.

Hi Shell,

I just played around with the phone a bit and I can confirm a few things now.

when you record a video clip it doesn't record any sound with it.

if you just wanna record sound goto 'Extras' in the menu and then My collection and records to record a new sound, to listen to the sound back u need to plug in your earpiece in the phone then u can hear it when u play it back.

as for the 'call key' I'm gonna play around with the phone settings and see if it can be made to light up ( if it can that is), when we make a call from the phone,

hope a bit of that was useful to you ^

Hi SRSpawn
Just wanted to say thanks ever so much for your comments, makes me feel better knowing that someone else's phone doesn't do these things either at least now I know that it isn't my phone thats faulty and I don't need to swap it again!
Let me know if you need any help with anything as at the moment it looks like we need to help each other until there is info available and Virgin operators get training on it!
All the best for 2006 Happy New Year

Hi Shell & SRSpawn,
I have also just got an Emblaze Sting 6. I am not too great with anything too techincal so can't answer any of your questions. I'm hoping to learn from you. Just letting you know that my call button does not light up either. It seems a good wee phone & I am pleased with it.

Hi Tracy
Thanks for you reply, am getting used to the call button not lighting up now, although I think they should have made it light up green really. Am very pleased so far with the phone in general though, couple of moans on little things like when you are using predictive text and you do a space mine always does two or three and I'm forever deleting the spaces think its just really sensitive thats all. Will be good when we get some sites where we can download wallpaper or ring tones. Great phone all in all though especially for the price.
Happy New Year

Hi Shell,
Just to let you know I managed to download a ringtone from play.com. They are not free but only cost 99p. I'm having the same problem with spaces & full stops when usung predictive text. I thought the price was great. I got mine from Virgin for £60 with £30 free airtime.
Happy New Year

Hi shell,

Thanks for the offer of help with anything
and hope you had a good new year's day

Hi Tracy,

congrats on the phone, I've had mine almost a month now and I like it and its pretty neat

two things I find a bit tedious is:

Virgin mobile site where u can log into ur account, check ur balance and order your bundle and stuff which is cool and I like that, but the site is down so much or has probs and your lucky if it loads sometimes lol.

another is Virgin tech when u phone them on 789, usually u gotta wait quite a long while, between 30 mins to 1 hour on hold just to get to speak to a person on the other end. but at least the call is 10p flat rate.

I have got 3 ringtones on my phone so far, I ordered them via Virgin bytes via the wap on the phone, I never got the push msgs so I called Virgin tech each time to have them send me the push msg so I can download my ringtone, and they did it ..so I was happy that I got them in the end atleast

Thanks for that www.play.com site u mentioned I might give that a go sometime if I want to download another ringtone and at 99p that is far better than paying £2.50 for one from virgin.

May I enquire when u downloaded your ringtone did u get a push msg with the link to download the ringtone straight away or at all, or did u have to phone up that site and have them check and then u got the push msg and went and downloaded the ringtone?

Hi shell,

I tried that predictive text a bit, but I couldn't make head nor tails of it and got no clue how its meant to be used. so I stick to typing without it, I find it much easier and I am new to txt messaging on phones so I'm slow but I'm improving.

hopefully when some info or proper review about the phones features and how to use stuff on it comes out on the net, hopefully they'll be something in it about the predictive texting , cause I sure could use a lesson in how to use it lol.

for now I'm happy to not use it cause I find it a nuisance for me and the typing in each letter of a word I find easier and easier to correct if I make a typo or mistake

btw I've read there are various predictive text types, T9 and Ezi texting do you know what ours for our phones is? or is it just called predictive texting?

Thanks

Hi SRSpawn,

Thanks for your reply. When I ordered the ringtone from play.com I got the push message straight away. The problem I had was that I had not activated the WAP on my phone. I don'tt think the instructions were too clear on having to do this. I only found out I had to do it by accident when looking on the virgin website. Anyway, after doing this I was able to download the ringtone onto the phone. It wasn't too difficult but I am not sure how I did it as I just messed about a bit (I did say I wasn't too technical). Too be honest I suprised myself I managed to get the ringtone onto the phone.
Hope it works for you if you try play.com
Happy New Year

Hi Tracy,
Thanks for your reply.

thats good to hear you had no probs or hassles when you ordered your ringtone.
If you do download a wallpaper and manage to get it, please let us know and from where.

I think you'll like your phone, as I like mine and haven't encountered any thing wrong with it or faults. a few hassles yeah but thats been with trying to download things lol but since I know why now I stopped worrying about it and know my phone is alright its just the lack of compatible things for it to download until the phone has been out for a good while and things are made available for us.

a few things you might like to know, the camera on the phone I like its very clear and shows detail quite well I think, its nothing compared to a digital camera one of which I have. but for the phone its quite good

when u take a pic u have to hold the phone still for a sec or two after taking the pic, cause if u move after u press snap to take a pic then the photo comes out blurred or slightly blurred.

and some other things if you want to check how much memory space you have left on your phone, you can goto the camera on the phone and where you find where it says 'memory info' that is the free memory space for the phone it shows, not just for taking pics or movies. Also in Extras from the menu then 'Java' then click memory status, that too shows the amount of free memory space left for the phone

anything you'd like to ask that I know about the phone so far, feel free to ask

Hi Tracy,

the way I send a Picture msg to someone is, I goto 'camera' from within the menu, then 'Photo Manager' then 'Edit' there u can see your Albums which contains pics you have taken & saved with the camera. Select Album 1 and see if any pics are in it that u wanna send. Once you got the pic selected, click 'option' you'll see a list of choices presented to you. choose --> 'Send MMS' ( Send MMS is for picture messaging ), once you select that it'll add that pic u took in the album for it to be sent and you can add a message and subject or anything else that it allows u to after that and once done you can send the MMS message.

hope that helps, give it a go and let us know.

Hi Tracy,

I came across only this bit of info: on here http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Dec2005/2326.htm

.You’ve got i-mail
Setting up email on your mobile phone can be a royal pain in the posterior. The average punter doesn’t know their APNs from their elbow.
Luckily, there are no such problems with i-mode. Your email account is automatically set up with your @o2imail.co.uk address prefixed with your mobile phone number. However this can be customised to what ever address you desire by simply changing the settings in My i-mode.
Sending mail is as easy as sending a text message and you can attach your mobile snaps (as long as it doesn’t exceed 100KB). I-mails and MMS cost 10p (prepay) and 12p (monthly) each to send without attachments, 25p each with attachments

so this is gonna be just a guess and hope it solves it for you, the pic might be too big in size if u take a pic try taking 1 at either 160x120 or 320 x 240 size, the file will be less than 100KB and then try sending and see if u get the same "content exceed" message.

Hi Tracy,

I Came across this http://www.virginmobile.com.au/vibe/help.html on I think the Australian Virgin mobile site and I think applies to the UK one too

How big can an MMS message be?

Right now the typical MMS size is around 30kb - 100kb.
How many images/pictures can you include in a MMS?
MMS can include more than one image/picture. Whether or not you can display multiple images varies depending on your phone. Remember the maximum size your MMS can be is 100kb.

Try sending a pic thats 160x120 size, u can do this by selecting options when u are trying to take a pic, it'll let u change the resolution of the pic to be taken which equals a smaller file size. and when u send the MMS try and add only that 1 pic and send, let me know if it works then when you try to send.

Hi guys hope you had a great Xmas and all have a fantastic 2006!
Sounds like we are all having fun with our new phones, question for you all please, I am used to using predictive text on a nokia mobile and had no problems (still think nokias are fab)but am finding on the emblaze quite difficult I can't seem to figure out how to put words into the dictionary if its not already in, I'm probably being thick so if any of you know please help an ex nokia user!
Thanks

P.S. Could anyone else not get on this site yesterday?

Hi SRSpawn
Thanks for answering have never known what predictive text I have used before as always had a nokia and had no problems, haven't a clue what this one is. Have looked at the web sites you suggested but its not the right information for our phone and doesn't work, so back to the drawing board, maybe this time next year will know how if I've still got the phone lol!
Thanks anyway

Hi Shell,

Hope you had a good new year. I'm glad to see your enjoying your phone and ain't had any major serious probs with it. I'm sure in time they'll be sites and reviews with info about our phone for us. I gave that predictive texting a go and I know how to type with it now a bit, but I find it much slower than just using the keys to tap in whatever letter I want lol. As for the adding a word into the dictionary, I have no idea how to do it but I hope you find out eventually so you can use it :)

Hi Tracy,

I'm glad the MMS finally worked for you :) now I know what to do if it ever happens to me too, it would be cause the MMS I'm sending has over exceeded the size limit.
so thanks for letting us know it finally worked.

Hi Tracy and SRSpawn
Just to let you know I phoned Virgin last night and am a bit disappointed as apparently this phone does not have a dictionary where you can put words in that it doesn't have when you are in predictive text, so it looks like I am going backwards not forwards after my superb Nokia as its taking me twice as long to send a text as I write something in predictive text thats in the dictionary and then have to put it onto ordinary for other words so I might as well use one or the other but I know it will take me longer than using predictive text on a Nokia, unfortunately there was no way of knowing until I bought it! Pleased with everything else but am now wishing I had gone for another flip phone that had this option. Maybe my present for this Xmas lol!
Take Care
Shell
P.S. I also asked about screen savers and ring tones and they said they can be accessed by WAP but haven't tried yet.

Hi guys, another sting 6 user here. I've just found out too that there is no dictionary for predictive text and am a bit disappointed. Doesn't seem sensible to me. Other than that, it's a really nice phone.

I bought my phone last week, saw it on the virgin site but it was out of stock. I got it then from Dixons. This week it seems to have disappeared completely from the virgin site and has gone up 10 quid at Dixons. Weird that it would no longer be with virgin.

I also found out that if you want to use the zoom feature on photos, you mustn't be in the highest resolution. It only works in the other resolutions. I've now moved one down and can at last use the zoom.
