Hey plps,

Ok here goes... My friend has a contract mobile (N91) with Vodafone - Through the Carphonewarehouse! They have insurance and want to 'lose' the handset and get it replaced on insurance (I know the normal things get it blocked within 24hrs and get a LP# from the cops).

Here is my question what i need help with!

I went to a 'unlocking shop' near where i live (Essex - UK) and they first told me the handset (N91) could not be unlocked but i spoke to him for a while and he told me it could be done but would cost alil more than normal and most people would not be interested in this, I said why? He said it would cost around £45 percode (1 code per handset) I said are you joking if i was to buy this handset offline/simfree it would cost me £500-700 so £45 + insurance excess sounds great to me. I want to know if my friend was to lose the handset and i was to try and get it unlocked would he be giving the IMEI to Vodafone and then they would say cant be done because handset should be 'lost' Would it make better sense to get the handset unlocked first (But would this effect the insurance cover and would Vodafone know?). I use to work with Vodafone and i know they aint very smart so i would just like your views/input!

Cheers
