I notice noone has mentioned this phone, even though its making waves elsewhere.

The only flaws, and bloody big ones at that, are the lack of both Bluetooth and a Camera.

That aside, it looks like a brilliant phone, and a viable option for my upgrade in 3 weeks.

I can use my 6310i with headset when driving, (which won't be opften from Dec 1st), and the MPx200 for everything else. Could even get two sims!!!!!

It seems to do all i need, with a Class 8 GPRS stack, its quick at both uploading and downloading, and my POP3/SMTP e-mails can be managed well.

Let me know your opinions...

it's like a stripped-down E200 really, due to the lack of camera and Bluetooth (which does seem really odd, considering that it's supposed to be a Smartphone :bo:
The E200 is'nt really that much more expensive for what it is, and you can use just the one phone for everything, including your Bluetooth headset :)

Well, Orange have just offered it to me for free when i upgrade in 3 weeks, so i think i will be having it.

I have just re-read a revirew of it, and it seems great; esp for nowt!!!

Ill use my 6310i for driving, and i wont use the camera.

I'll let y'all know how it is in a month...

I just got one at the weekend ,the phone looks alot better than the nokia 6600 i was wanted ,texting on it is a nightmare at first as all old phones were nokia, plus make sure you have a small cloth to clean finger prints off the case, other than it a good phone if you don`t need bt or a cam.
Did any body know if you can check out how many megabyte you have used on internet.

yeah, i've been wondering that too, i NEED to know how much of my GPRS data bundle i've used so i don't go over it, it'll cost me a fortune!
I'm sure theres a way, but i'm still making my way through the manual :)

Spoke to orange cs (phone trainer:rolleyes: ) and asked him if he could tell me how to check this, he say you will have to wait until you get your bill .

I told him what phone i had ,he put me on hold for 10mins as he went to tech. support then told me this is the first pone call he had about the mpx200.
Look like i will have to go into a store and try and get somebody who know something about smartphone:rolleyes:

Ive seen a MMC that gives your MPx200 Bluetooth and one with a camera on!!!!!

Both accessories only available on the states, but will be here soon i suspect, or will probably work anyway!!!

I have just returned my mpx200 back to the orange shop due to the fact i could only get less than 24 hours before it would be flat and that with me only using for 30mins where they state you should get about 90hrs to 110hrs. Don`t get me wrong the phone is good but the battery which was in my phone sucked.:pissed:

So have they given you a new phone? Or replaced the battery? Sounds faulty if your getting such crap results.

I didn`t want a replacement phone so i asked them to cancel the contract . I am going to go orange and get a square deal but dont know what phone to get now

Daedalus

you did leave the battery on charge for 15 hours or more for the first go, did'nt you?
thats what your supposed to do with ALL phones to give them a full charge, even if they come with a little bit of charge or if they say the battery is full after a couple of hours, just keep it charging for 15 hours or more and then use it as normal.
And if you still dont want the MX200 (which I can understand. I mean, who makes a smartphone that people hail as 'the best phone ever' when they cant even be bothered to put a camera or bluetooth in it, which you'll get in much more basic phone nowadays) then ask to have a look at the E200 (not biased or anything.... :) ), the 6600 (at a stretch, i've heard bad things about it) or the T610.

I know you have to charge it that long ,but there have been problem with battery on this phone, if you check www.mpx200.org or //smartphone.modaco.com/index.php
you would see.
Other than the battery problem ,the phone was good

Just wanted a chance to defend my future phone.

It is not a copy of the E200, and therefore it should not have a camera and Bluetooth by default. I know you can get those features on lower grade phones today, so if thats what you want; get one of them.

This is aimed at entertainment and business peeps alike. You have the ability to access your corporate LAN wirelessly, which makes Bluetooth look like something from the dark ages. And as I already mentioned, you can buy a camera that slots into the MMC/SD slot in the side; the software already has options built into it allready.

In addition, it runs a tweaked version of a tried and tested operating system, something i am a whole lot more likely to trust than something that has been out for weeks.

All in all, the first clam-shell Smartphone looks good for its money and i haven't read a bad review. If you want to compare it with the E200, read the linked review a few posts back.

PS, its £140 cheaper.

Cheers Kenny, i know you weren't. Just couldn't sit back after the bashing Daedalus gave it!!!!!:)

Its all in good fun. Helps make us all that bit more objective.

I decided on this phone myself after reading the manual too.

The Siemens seems to be making waves, I just think its too damn ugly!!

Ive tried to imagine handling it and texting on it, and it looks like a nightmare!

So when are you getting for phone, would be interested to see how long of a battery life you get out of the phone? Ttue about the sx1 for texting . What do you think of the se P900

Daedalus
02-12-2003, 23:11
sorry theecspec, did'nt mean to have a go at it, i just thought if it's supposed to be a device capable of multi-functions and entertainment then it'd have these things, but not everybody wants them nowadays :)
and shhh, don't be rude about the SX1, Krug3r will kill you! lol ;)

I know, I think he is going to marry it!!!

Kenny, my upgrade day is 14th Dec, next next Sunday, but I was going to do it through Customer Services with free delivery, as they give you a 7 day cooling off period if there are any probs, where as retail, (shops), don't. Once you sign for it, your stuck for a year. I learnt that lesson the hard way when I upgraded from the nokia 7110 to the Siemens SL42e. What a piece of crap that was. Fortunatley, I got to ear bash a Siemens rep once I got rid of it. He admitted that and the SL45 were a disaster.

Too late now! Never going back. And it has taken a lot to revert me back to Motorola after I had one as my first phone ever, 5 and a half years ago!!!
z
PS, re: P900, aesthetically, prefer the P800.
Too expensive
Haven't made my mind up about Symbian software, (Nokia use it and their Series 80/90 phones are poo, ie 7650/3650 etc)

Upgraded to MPx200 on Orange mid December 03, 2 weeks later returned it due to poor battery life ( YES i did charge it properly ).They exchanged it no probs I contacted motorola to ask how long to charge for the first time.
They told me the same as the shop 16hrs then discharge fully( the phone :nal: ) then repeat a few times and this would bring the battery up to full capacity.
Did it and after just over 2 weeks i was still only getting 18-24hrs standby. I rang big O and they said not our problem as its outside of their 28 day return policy and to contact Motorola and they said take it back to the shop i got it from. Took it back again last Saturday they didnt want to know, after a good old moan in their full shop they gave me a new battery. It is now Tuesday and the phone is on its third charge its not even lasting 12hours and i never even got to make or recieve a call NOT GOOD! :pissed:

Soooo i am returning it this Saturday and they are going to have it back. Trading standards told me that they have given false information in their adverts and supplied a product that is not fit for the purpose thus are obligated to cancel the contract.

I will post back to let you know how i get on.

wow, looks like you've got most of the phones I've owned over the years.
I've had (and don't groan mod's, just 'cause you've heard it before :) ) :

Nokia 1611 (got it for washing a car :D)
Nokia 5110 (well, technicly I just borrowed it from Mum for 4 months...)
Nokia 3210 (still works to this day! I still use it as a back up!)
Nokia 7110 x2 (the x2 bit speaks for itself really....first one broke, second one broke.)
Samsung T100 (was the dogs b***ocks at the time, now it's barley the turtle's b***ocks)
Nokia 5100 (Not bad, but bloody expensive for what it did!)
NEC e808s (black not silver, was £50 on '3 to go' :D)
SPV E200 (current phone, and it rocks. Enough said :) )

I have used one of these fones for several weeks now and it suits me fine, being able to browse the web with no complicated setting up with the screen adjusted automatically is great, and also been getting 2-3 day battery time.

Well worth a look, and great value at the moment.

Dont get me wrong the MPX is a very good phone it just 21hrs standby on 2 phones 3 batterys put me off it. If my battery lasted 36hrs I would of kept it.
The replacements I had were from the same shop so most likely the same batch.
Anyhooo its all sorted and I have my SPV :big smile
