(Source: The Newsfactor) - Merging the boundary between smart phones and regular handsets, Samsung introduced its first "file viewer" phones -- models SPH-V6500 and SCH-V650 -- that allow users to view standard PC documents and images. According to the company, the phones are designed to enhance the productivity of business people who are constantly on the go but need to view critical documents, such as PDF files.

Users can download data onto the phones in the original file format through a PC connection. From the PC's perspective, the phone behaves much like an external storage device. The phones can view Microsoft Word and Excel files, as well as PDF, JPG and TXT files. The phones also include a 1.3-megapixel camera with a 16-million-color LCD. In addition, a remote-control function gives users the ability to control smart home appliances, including air conditioners, PCs, game consoles, TVs, DVD players, VCRs and even cars.

According to a company statement, the phones have acquired the S-Mark certification from the Korean government for their antibacterial silver nanoparticle coating. In addition to the file-viewer and camera capabilities, the phones support various multimedia functions, including video-on-demand programs.
