Vodafone & O2 Have To Share Networks

Here's The Scoop
(Source: RCR) - A plan to allow other mobile phone operators to use the networks currently owned by Vodafone and O2 in the Republic of Ireland has been given the go-ahead by the EU. The European Commission has approved the decision which was announced last month by the telecommunications regulator Comreg. New legislation will force the two companies to allow their networks to be used by so-called `virtual operators` such the UK`s Virgin Mobile. Meteor already has the right to use O2`s network in areas where their own network is incomplete.
The new mobile regulations are being designed to allow other mobile operators a fairer crack at the whip, so they are not restricted by their own coverage limitations. If all mobile operators had to put mobile masts up to gain the amount of coverage needed, then the country would be so crammed full of masts we'd mistake them for a new type of tree.
